Ross McBride
Ross McBride
After graduation in the summer of 1965, I went to work for Birmingham Trust National Bank and attended Cumberland School of Law at Samford University at night. With the encouragement of fraternity brother Rob White, I went to work for IBM. After 21 years as a manager in several branches of IBM as well as a Director of Facilities Services for the entire Dallas - Fort Worth HQ locations, I early retired in 1988.

In early 1992, I went to work for Alcon Laboratories, Inc. in Fort Worth, Texas and, after 9 years, retired a couple of years ago as the Senior Director, Global Corporate Services. Since then, I started my own corporate services consulting business in the corporate travel, corporate major event management and corporate facilities management arena. I recently added planning golf trips for small groups to any sites in the United States. Oh, golf; I still find time to play golf only about three or four times a week. I've been able to keep my handicap under five and play in numerous senior tournaments throughout Texas.

I was married to Amanda (Chi Omega, '64) for ten years with two kids, Lisa and Scott. I have now been married for 20 years to Tracy (Native Texan), 15 years younger than me, and we have one boy, Sean, a senior in high school. Tracy is a marketing rep with IBM selling mid-range computers to large IBM customers in the southwest area.

Looking back, I think college, without Phi Gamma Delta, would have been a miserable experience. I knew Russell Cunningham from before Auburn in Birmingham. Rob White was one of my first roommates and was a true friend for years after college. Boy, you look back and realize that many of us almost died together in a fire (thanks, Gary, for alerting us). We grew up together. Many important lessons were learned. I didn't think so much about it then, but Phi Gamma Delta played a major part in my successful future.
